Jillie Reil (The Cougar Of Comedy) YTunes Shuffle Song Facts

Jillie Reil…The Cougar of Comedy. She is a talented writer, actress, comedian and producer of shows to benefit the troops!

These are the songs she brought to the show and a little nugget about each artist/song.

AC/DC “You Shook Me All Night Long” (1980)

This is the first song with new lead singer Brian Johnson. (Bon Scott passed away in Feb after a drinking binge). Some copies of the single were pressed incorrectly so some people have a song called “Shake A Leg” and they are considered collectors items.

Madonna “Vogue” 1990

Vogueing was already a dance craze popular in dance clubs. Madonnas best friend noticed it and Madonna loved it. Out of all of the glamourous people she mentions, only one was alive to hear their cameo mention. Lauren Bacall who passed away in 2014.

Everclear “Santa Monica” 1996

While on tour in 2003, the band would pick someone from the crowd to play guitar on this song. If they sucked, they’d be kicked off stage and someone else would come up to replace them.

Simon & Garfunkel "Mrs. Robinson" (1968)

This song would have been great as an Oscar contendor for Best Song From a Movie (for The Graduate) but it was never nominated becase Simon & Garfunkel never filled out the forms to get it considered. Simon said “It was the 60’s. we just weren’t paying attention.”

Guns N Roses “Used To Love Her (1988)

This song was part of two murder trials that helped convict the defendent. In 2002, Justin Barber (Florida) was accused of killing his wife. A forensic analyst testified that Barber downloaded the song just hours before the murder. The tune was played for jury with lyrics displayed and Barber was convicted of first degree murder with life in prison. The second trial, Thomas Michael Wilhelm allegedly sang the tune just before he shot his ex girlfriend. He also sent a text “used to love her” to a friend 11 minutes before the shooting. Wilhelm was convicted and sentenced to 50 years to life.

ANASTASIAWASHINGTON is an actress, writer, singer, comedian and filmmaker. She has recorded with artists like Michael Jackson, and Harry Connick Jr. and made appearances on The Addams Family Series, Die Hard 2 and La Femme Nikkita. She has been a featured writer on LadySpike with her piece “8 Things Not To Say To Your Biracial Friend.” Her comedic genius rolls over into creating parody songs as well.

These are the songs that make up the soundtrack of her life!

  1. You Don't See Me” Josie and The Pussycats

Beyonce, Aaliyah and Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes (TLC) auditioned for the role of Valerie Brown, played by Roasario Dawson in the film. Producers wanted someone who could do comedy and Beyonce was “quiet and shy” while Aaliya was “serious and thoughtful.”

  1. My Sharona” The Knack

Lead singer Doug Fieger wrote the lyrics about a girl he liked. Doug was already in a long term relationship and met Sharona Alperin, who was dating someone else at the time. Doug walked into the clothing shop she worked at and spotted the high school student and became immediately smitten. Doug broke up with his girlfriend and professed his love for Sharona. Sharona and her boyfriend often went to The Knack concerts and Doug would still hit on her. It took over a year but Sharona finally gave in and the two started dating. They dated for 4 years but Sharona broke it off because touring and Doug's alcoholism became too much for her.

  1. I'm So Proud” The Impressions

Originally founded as The Roosters....Jerry Butler and Curtis Mayfield met while singing in the same Church Choir in Chicago. They joined a doo-wop group in 1957 in Chattanooga, Tennesee with Sam Gooden and Richard Brooks.

  1. Run To You” Whitney Houston

This was actually written as a break up song, but the director of “The Bodyguard,” Mick Jackson wanted to use it earlier in the film so he called the writers and asked for entirely new lyrics.

Christina Aguilera admitted to practicing this song for hours to prove she had the vocal range needed to sing “Reflection”from Mulan.

  1. Nasty Boy” Janet Jackson

Janet says this song was based on an experience she had while walking from her hotel to her studio in Minneapolis. There were a bunch on men outside just hanging around and saying really sexual stuff. She went into the studio and started working on the song right after that. Paula Abdul choreographed this music video and even appears as a friend.

GOOD MORNING BALTIMORE From Hairspray

The show that lead character Tracy Turnblad wanted to get on “The Corny Collins Show” is based off The Buddy Deane Show. The Buddy Deane show didn't end in an multi-racial dance party, however, not because producers didn't want to...the dancers and committee members were all for it, the parents were another story. The show was canceled and Buddy Deane makes an appearance in the movie as a reporter covering the protests at the governor's mansion.

ONLY PRETTIER from Miranda Lambert

This song was written with Natalie Hemby along with three other songs in the span of two hours. Miranda loves this song speaking to the female cattiness and mean girl spirit girls experience in high school. The video features some of Miranda's country music friends like Kellie Pickler, Laura Bell Bundy and Hillary Scott from Lady A.

SEASONS OF LOVE from RENT

Jonathan Larson wrote this song to be performed symbolically at Angel's funeral. Larson passed the night before the preview opening of the show and the cast sang it at the beginning to pay respects.

CALIFORNIA LOVE from Tupac

K.D. Lang “Hallelujah”
K.D. was fascinated with Patsy Cline. Patsy was the reason she decided to pursue a career in music. K.D. formed a Patsy Cline tribute band called the Reclines in Edmonton, Canada. After recording their first single “Friday Dance Promenade,” she got a personal manager and performed regularly at a popular local venue for musicians. It was there she performed a seven our performance art piece where she reenacted the transplant of an artificial heart. This got her noticed and sent (with only 2 other Canadian artists) to perform at the World Science Fair in Japan.

O Sifuni Mungu
Written and composed by Marty McCall, this song was inspired by Paul Simon’s performance during the 1987 Grammy’s when he sang/played “Graceland” with the back up male vocal group Ladysmith Black Mambazo from South Africa. Graceland won Album of The Year that year.

Mona Haydar “Hijabi”
Mona was 14 years old when she started going to open mics in Flint, Michigan performing spoken word poetry. She has a masters degree in Christian Ethics from Union Theological Seminary. After a friend committed suicide she moved off the grid to a retreat center called the Lama Foundation in the Northwest Territory of New Mexico.

Stevie Wonder “Faith”

This was the first recording in 25 years that Stevie lent his voice to for a film. (Sing) Ariana Grande recalls being in studio with him feeling star struck. They were not only in the same room, they were in the same booth, arm in arm. And every time she’d get “comfortable” Stevie would go off on a vocal run and she’d be like “Oh shit, that’s Stevie Wonder”
